Yoga In The Heat of The Summer!

Here are some great reasons to engage in Yoga practice during natural warm weather. Summertime brings along the heat and wakes our bodies up really quickly to the practice with many benefits to boot. For many of us we occasionally feel stiff not very flexible in the cold.

Yet the heat naturally warms our muscles and ligaments up pretty effortlessly and quickly makes our bodies ready to focus on our yoga routine diminishing our risks of injuries but also rendering more ease of movement and better access to our full potential for each asana we perform. This new season comes to wake us up with an invitation to make full use of our bodies at all levels: body, mind and spirit; and then, to embrace our own individual strength derived from our full engagement in action.

As the days get longer you will find the best time during your day to get out and find a routine to engage naturally in your practice. The best asanas are the ones you find yourself doing right in the middle of a hike, when you are getting off from a long canoe ride or sitting on the dock looking into the open water… Look for ways to integrate your practice into activities you are already used to and committed to doing and see those same activities flourish to their optimal potential. The heat boosts your optimism and energy levels and makes it easier to get motivated and accomplish things. Yet the heat can also offer challenges such as insect distractions or annoying mosquito bites. Make sure to invite those into your practice as well and make them the focus of your meditation on letting go!
